Students and engineers work together to develop innovative solutions for technical challenges
Students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and engineers from BKW Engineering will combine their creativity and expertise at the BKW Engineering × TUM.ai Hackathon 2025 from 18 to 19 October 2025. The initiator of this innovative collaboration is the Digital Transformation division at BKW Engineering. In the premises of Assmann Beraten + Planen München, forty selected participants will work in interdisciplinary teams on real technical challenges – from the initial idea through to a presentable solution.
Our goal is to bring together different perspectives and develop innovative approaches for practice. The hackathon provides an ideal creative environment for this.

A sprint for innovation
A hackathon is an intensive development and creative process: within 24 hours, the teams develop concepts, prototypes and solutions that are presented to a jury at the end. The jury recognises the most innovative and, at the same time, most practicable ideas.
Mentoring and expertise
Participants are supported by experienced mentors from the DACH region. The jury is made up of experts from various disciplines, including:
Dr Stefan Nixdorf, CCO BKW Engineering
Anke Portsch, Managing Director Assmann Beraten + Planen
Michael de Martin, Managing Director ADZ
Marc Holliger, Head of IT BKW Engineering
Thorben Prein, Head of Reserach at TUM.ai
Career opportunities and network
Alongside developing creative solutions, students gain valuable insights into the working world of engineers and learn about possible career paths at BKW Engineering.
“We look forward to working with TUM.ai. The hackathon is not only a platform for fresh ideas, but also a springboard for talent who will shape our industry in the future,” emphasises Dr Stefan Nixdorf.
The BKW Engineering Network of Excellence® is the largest association of independent engineering, architecture, appraisal and testing companies in the DACH region.
