BKW has acquired the Öhringen-Karlsfurt wind farm in Baden-Württemberg. The wind farm is set to go into operation in the first quarter of 2027 and produce more than 80 GWh of renewable electricity annually. This acquisition adds 33.6 MW to BKW’s wind portfolio in Germany and further expands renewable energy production in one of the company’s core European markets.
Today, BKW launches a new brand architecture and a new visual identity. This brings the companies of the BKW Group closer together and gives them a stronger profile as part of BKW. The single identity will make it easier for customers to recognise the wide range of services on offer in the fields of energy, buildings and infrastructure. At the same time, it will reduce the complexity of the existing brand landscape.
On 10 September 2026, BKW successfully placed a fixed-rate bond of CHF 200 million on the Swiss capital market. The bond, with a coupon of 1.250 percent and a term of six and a half years, strengthens BKW’s liquidity reserve and supports the implementation of its “Solutions 2030” strategy.
BKW’s Engineering business area is expanding its construction service portfolio under the strategy “Solutions 2030”. Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH (Germany) and KS Ingenieure GmbH (Austria) will join the BKW Engineering network of specialist companies. These acquisitions boost BKW’s expertise in the fast-growing markets of façades, sustainable building shells, and structural and general planning, while at the same time expanding its market presence in Germany and Austria.
BKW closed the first half of 2026 with solid total operating income of CHF 2,182.5 million, down 3.1 percent from the previous year. The performance of the Power Grid business segment was steady, while Infrastructure & Buildings posted positive results. The results of the Energy Solutions business segment, on the other hand, were temporarily impacted. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) declined by 10.1 percent to CHF 387.9 million, while earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell by 15.1 percent to CHF 263.7 million. Thanks to the strong performance of the Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant’s decommissioning and waste disposal funds, net profit increased by 7.0 percent year-over-year to CHF 217.6 million. BKW expects EBIT for 2026 to be at the lower end of the target range of CHF 650 million to CHF 750 million announced at the beginning of the year.
BKW’s basic supply customers will pay less for electricity in 2027 than in 2026. While grid usage tariffs are increasing, energy tariffs will fall significantly. Overall, this will result in 7.6 percent lower electricity costs for a typical four-person household. At the same time, BKW is offering a dynamic grid usage tariff for the first time in 2027. In the warmer half of the year, the product «Sonne scheint» offers a discount on electricity purchased on sunny afternoons. It is an optional tariff.
After six years on the BKW Executive Committee, Philipp Hänggi has decided to scale back his involvement in the energy sector to strategic tasks and focus more on matters related to artificial intelligence. On 24 March 2026, BKW successfully issued a CHF 200 million bond in the Swiss capital market. The bond has a coupon of 1.125 % and a maturity of 6 years. With this issue, BKW is setting a new trend of financing investments in the electricity distribution system in Switzerland through the green bond market. In doing so, BKW underscores the key role of network infrastructure in the energy transition, security reliability of supply and a competitive business location.
BKW achieved a good operating result of CHF 674.6 million before the valuation adjustment in the 2025 fiscal year. This makes 2025 the third-best fiscal year in the company’s history. Due to a valuation adjustment in conjunction with BKW’s investment in the Wilhelmshaven coal-fired power plant in Germany, the reported operating profit (EBIT) is CHF 561.0 million. In the Energy Solutions Business Segment, lower electricity production from hydropower and wind power due to weather conditions had a negative impact on earnings. The Power Grid Business Segment once again made a stable contribution to EBIT. The Infrastructure & Buildings Business Segment further increased its profitability. The board of directors will propose to the Annual General Meeting that the ordinary dividend be increased by CHF 0.10 to CHF 3.80 per share.
The value adjustment of around CHF 110 million results in a revision to the company’s 2025 EBIT guidance to between CHF 540 million and CHF 560 million, with expected EBIT for 2026 of CHF 650 million to CHF 750 million
