What security of supply means
Security of supply means that the energy demanded – especially electricity – is available in sufficient quantities at all times.
If it is not guaranteed, almost all areas of life are affected. It arises from the interplay between politics, production, consumers, the energy industry and the grid.
As an energy producer, energy trader and the largest distribution grid operator in Switzerland, we are making a contribution: with diversified production, with the expansion and secure operation of the distribution grids, and with trading that balances production and consumption at all times. At the same time, we are advocating for framework conditions that accelerate the conversion and expansion of the electricity grid and integrate Switzerland into the European electricity market.
Three levers
Production, grid and trading
Energy supply companies influence security of supply at three levels.
Generation: Broadly diversified generation ensures a stable and reliable supply.Grid: Distribution grids absorb, transport and distribute electricity – safely and efficiently.Trading: Trading keeps production and consumption in balance across Europe at all times.
