BKW is implementing an integrated energy solution for Dreier to electrify its logistics.
Dreier AG is expanding its electric HGV fleet. To this end, BKW is implementing an integrated energy solution in Egerkingen with 16 charging points and a battery storage system that intelligently links charging capacity, grid connection and operation.

Project facts
Dreier AG is continuously expanding its electric lorry fleet. By spring 2027, it is set to grow to around 100 vehicles.
BKW Smart Mobility and Dreier are relying on a holistically planned energy solution. The charging park 2.0 combines 16 charging points with up to 400 kW of power per charging point, the complete energy connection of the site and a battery storage system with 6.0 MWh storage capacity.

BKW Smart Mobility
BKW Smart Mobility is implementing the integrated charging and energy solution for Dreier AG at the Egerkingen site.
As the general contractor, it handles the entire process from consulting and planning through execution to commissioning. Arnold AG, another group company of BKW, is also involved. This enables BKW to provide the expertise required for the project from a single source.

Electrification needs more than individual charging points
Photovoltaics on roofs have long been established. But existing transport infrastructure also offers surfaces that can be used for energy production. The photovoltaic system at the FEDRO Alvaschein tunnel on Julierstrasse shows just how demanding such a solution can be.
A total of 427 PV modules were installed on a 920-square-metre exposed concrete wall. The system is expected to achieve an annual production of around 175,000 kilowatt hours. This means it produces around 30 per cent more electricity than the tunnel itself consumes. The project therefore shows the additional benefit that existing infrastructure can provide: an already existing structural surface becomes a source of energy. A challenging starting point
The technical implementation differed significantly from a conventional photovoltaic system on a building. The Alvaschein I retaining wall is located around 450 metres before the tunnel portal. A cable route of nearly 1.5 kilometres had to be covered between the PV system and the technical infrastructure. In addition, the site is located directly on a heavily used main traffic artery. Routing the cables along the road therefore required almost exclusively night work. The regulatory requirements were also high. An exceptional permit was required for the system. The prerequisites for this were complete technical documentation, robust calculations and close coordination with the responsible authorities.
From planning to commissioning BKW Smart Mobility takes care of the entire process, from consultation and planning through to execution and commissioning. The existing charging infrastructure is being expanded into Charging Park 2.0. In total, 16 charging points will be created, with charging capacities of up to 400 kW per charging point, as well as a battery storage system with 6.0 MWh of storage capacity. The integrated solution coordinates charging infrastructure, storage, grid connection, energy supply and operation. This allows charging capacity to be provided according to demand and the grid infrastructure to be used efficiently.A scalable basis for lower-emission logistics With the new energy solution, Dreier is laying the foundation for reliably and efficiently integrating electric commercial vehicles into operational logistics operations. The combination of charging infrastructure and battery storage supports more efficient use of the grid connection, reduces peak loads and provides the required charging capacity in a targeted manner. The solution meets the requirements for reliable and cost-effective operation while also being scalable. It therefore supports the gradual expansion of the electric fleet and shows how high-performance charging infrastructure can be implemented in a grid-compatible and sustainable way over the long term.
